Having a dog helps teach responsibility to children.

Whether they’re helping to bathe, feed, or exercise the family dog, children will learn the value of responsibility.  Caring for the dog will teach children that their pet is dependent on them for food and exercise and love. Dogs require a lot of care; they need to be fed, walked, played with and trained.  Children come to understand that dogs have to learn discipline in order to be pleasant around the family and others.  Children come to appreciate discipline by observing how important it is in their dog.  Having a dog teaches children patience, commitment and selflessness.

Caring for a dog takes a great deal of responsibility.  Children learn to be less focused on themselves and more patient with others.  Responsibility is a key factor in leadership development in children, and one of the best ways of learning responsibility is in the home with the family dog.  Being responsible for a dog teaches children valuable life lessons. The lessons that children learn from having a dog are priceless and may just help in being successful in life and in a career.

• Fairbanks is the largest city in the Interior region of Alaska, and second largest in the state far behind Anchorage. Motto: The Golden Heart City.
• Captain E. T. Barnette founded Fairbanks in August 1901 while headed to Tanacross, where he intended to set up a trading post. The steamboat on which Barnette was a passenger, the Lavelle Young, ran aground while attempting to negotiate shallow water. Barnette, along with his party and supplies, were deposited along the banks of the Chena River 7 miles upstream from its confluence with the Tanana River.
• The sight of smoke from the steamer’s engines caught the attention of gold prospectors working in the hills to the north, most notably an Italian immigrant named Felice Pedroni and his partner Tom Gilmore. The two met Barnette where he disembarked and convinced him of the potential of the area. Teams of gold prospectors soon congregated in and around the newly-founded Fairbanks.
• The settlement was named after Charles W. Fairbanks, a Republican senator from Indiana and later the twenty-sixth Vice President of the United States, serving under Theodore Roosevelt during his second term.[5]
