Puppyhood is the fastest-learning period in a Labrador’s life, and the right structure now builds habits that last a lifetime. At Twin Lakes Kennel, we have more than 45 years of working with American field-bred Labradors. We shape calm focus, clean manners, and early retrieving instincts through simple, repeatable routines and consistent, fair feedback grounded in practical, real-world scenarios.

With timing, repetition, and short, upbeat sessions, a young Lab learns to settle quickly, listen the first time, and approach new environments with confidence rather than chaos.
Our program starts at six months for physically sound pups current on vaccinations. Training uses a leash and collar to teach core commands through repetition with consistent reward and consequence, keeping sessions short and clear to match a puppy’s attention span. The goal is to achieve reliable responses in everyday situations and create a smooth path toward started and finished retriever work.
Most pups complete this phase in four to six weeks, with boarding included for consistency and convenience. The routine is predictable and structured, which helps young dogs relax, learn quickly, and carry good habits into the next stage of training.

I just wanted to send y’all an update on how our puppy Boone is doing. He is from the Snatch/Honey litter and he looks just like his father. He’s just over six months old now and he’s panning out to be a wonderful hunt dog.

I just wanted to send y’all a quick note updating you on our sweet Gauge that we picked up back in May (Snatch x Raven).
